In June, 1951 friends Frankie Drayton (Thomas) (Left side) and Gwendolyn Baker (Rodgers) (Right side) of West Palm Beach, FL decided to call together young women of similar ideas, ideals, philosophies, and backgrounds to join in a united effort to have more organized, diversified social activities. The group was incorporated in 1955 as THE CHARMETTES, INC. and thus began the expansion. Charmette members are dedicated, accomplished, concerned and committed women who work in their communities to make our world a better and more productive place. Our chapters take pride in a legacy of service and sisterhood and we look forward to a strong future.
One of our community pioneer in the name of Mrs. Margaret C. Ward thought it would be rewarding to establish this organization into our community; therefore she started the Lake County Chapter which was installed in August 22, 1987.
At Lake County Chapter Charmettes, our mission is to improve the lives of those in need by providing essential services and support to our communities. We believe that everyone deserves access to basic necessities such as food, shelter, and healthcare.
We are committed and dedicated to our organization, our members and to our communities.
We welcome, value and support the diversity of skills, expertise, tools and networks of the strong African American women who comprise our membership.
We recognize the importance and benefits of supporting the eradication of cancer and partnering with historically black colleges, universities, and others who share our values and support our mission.
